Two teenage sisters are about to leave their country forever when they unexpectedly reconnect with an absentee father. This bond will both strengthen and ease their pain of change.. Switzerland’s Official Submission for 'Best International Feature Film' category at the 97th Academy Awards in 2025. I saw this at the Sundance Film Festival 2024. I don’t often see films from Peru, as Peruvian cinema is quite rare. As one of the few films about Peru I had seen, this is pretty good. Director Claudia Reinicke definitely makes a personal and interesting observation of the family dynamic between father and daughters and the dynamic is well fleshed out with good performances, strong direction and some pretty good dialogue moments. Throughout, the cinematography is quite good along with the production design, setting and presentation used throughout. The narrative is simple and although it is predictable and slightly kitschy, the emotional core, direction and good performances help keep the story interesting. Including some interesting insights into the political turmoil in Peru and the dynamic relationship between father and children. Overall, this is a good warm and kind movie.
